HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Jazz in the Park, a local concert series in Huntsville that seeks to promote jazz and help build communities, has been canceled this year.
Kenny Anderson, the Multicultural Affairs Officer for the City of Huntsville, made the announcement this afternoon via social media.
Event organizers had been exploring options to preserve the signature event since March. Ideas included an attempt to physical distance in the park, a drive-in event and a virtual event on a rooftop.
Based on information received from the ADHP & CDC, Anderson and his staff determined that it would be best to cancel the event this year and focus on preserving personal safety while looking ahead to next year. Anderson says that cancelling the event is disappointing; however, they had to make the best move in the direction that supports the available information at the time.
Anderson will begin preliminary planning for next year very soon and committee work will begin in either November or January 2021, depending on the COVID-19 landscape.
