3-year-old injured in accidental shooting in Lauderdale County

Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office says the child gained access to a 9mm handgun from inside a car and accidentally fired it, resulting in a self-inflicted injury.

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. — On Thursday evening in Lauderdale County, a 3-year-old child was accidentally shot in the leg. The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident happened in the Green Hill community on County Road 390, after receiving reports of a child with a gunshot wound in the leg. Authorities stated that the child remained conscious and alert after the incident and was airlifted to Vanderbilt Hospital for treatment.

Investigations show that the child gained access to a 9mm handgun from inside a car and accidentally fired it, resulting in a self-inflicted injury. Additionally, an adult was nearby when the incident happened. The LCSO confirmed that the child is in stable condition.
