HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Back to school time is almost here and who doesn't love a good Back to School Bash to kick things off right?
Rising Stars Tutoring Owner Porshe Chapman said this event is really all about pouring back into the community. "Making sure that our kids I started out the school year with a backpack full of supplies, giving them the essentials that they need for that first day start." Chapman believes COVID put a dent in the economic status of many. "So we just feel like it's a good need for us to pour into. So we try to give back yearly as much as we can. We're providing food, um, food, also bouncy houses, a dunk tank. We even inside have hair stylists braiding hair, doing locks and even barbers. So we just feel like it's a good need for us to pour into. So we try to give back yearly as much as we can. And so us four ladies come together as a team to make sure that our kids are successful when it comes down to the education of their academics," she continued.
Speaking of hairstyles, Rolling Hills Elementary 5th grader Jalaya Harris shares how she feels about leaving this event with her new hairstyle and heading back to school in style. "I think it's a blessing to get your hair done getting it free and all that."
McNair Jr. High 8th grader Za'Kariyah Rice said he's happy to have this opportunity to spend time with all of his friends. "Earlier I was bored, but then all my friends came. So, I was like bet, we having fun." Furthermore, that is not Rice's only thought about today. "It's really just helping out our community, helping kids to learn everything," he added.
