78-year-old Lauderdale County woman believed abducted by son

ALEA says Mary Anne Moore was allegedly abducted by her son, 47-year-old Kristopher Gene Moore.

LEXINGTON, Ala — A statewide alert is in effect for a missing 78-year-old Lauderdale County woman who is believed to have been abducted by her own son.

In a statement distributed Thursday by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public's assistance in locating Mary Ann Moore.

Moore is believed to have been abducted by her son, Kristopher Gene Moore, 47. The agency believes Mary Anne may in danger of bodily harm or death. She was last seen on November 3 in the area of County Road 462 in Lexington at around 8 p.m.

The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office says Moore was living in a camper behind the residence of his mother and has been reported as being violent and mentally unstable. They say that evidence from the date of their disappearance shows Kristopher drove Mary Anne to the bank in a borrowed car where she withdrew a large amount of money from her account before returning to her home. This vehicle was later returned.

The following morning, at about 7 a.m., it was discovered that both Mr. Moore and Ms. Moore were missing.  They have not been seen by friends or family since.  It is unknown at this time what vehicle they may be in at this time.

"Due to Mr. Moore's recent erratic behavior, it is believed by Law Enforcement that Ms. Moore is in extreme danger," the Sheriff's Office said.

If you have any information as to the whereabouts of Ms. Mary Ann Moore or Mr. Kristopher Gene Moore, please contact the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office at (256) 760-5769 or call 911.
