Don't miss your deadline to return absentee ballots for August 25 election

Make sure that you allow time for mail delivery of your ballot AND time to return it.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The deadline is approaching to return an absentee ballot for the upcoming August 25 municipal elections.

An absentee ballot returned by mail:

  • Must be postmarked no later than the day prior to the election (August 24) and
  • Received by the Absentee Election Manager no later than noon on election day (August 25). 

If hand-delivered, the ballot must be in the office of the Absentee Election Manager by the close of business (but no later than 5 p.m.) on the day prior to the election (August 24). Postal delivery can take two to five days, so don't wait until the last minute to submit your Absentee Ballot Application and return your ballot. 

The deadline to request a ballot was August 20. However, you also need to be aware of return deadlines and postal delivery.

Due to COVID-19, anyone concerned about getting or spreading the virus can vote absentee in the August 25 municipal election and November 3 general election.

You can check, "I have a physical infirmity or illness which prevents my attendance at the polls. [ID REQUIRED]." on the absentee ballot application.

Secretary of State John H. Merrill is encouraging those concerned about spreading or contracting COVID-19 to vote via absentee ballot for the upcoming elections.
