MOULTON, Ala. — Officials say an accidental fall is what killed a North Alabama man who was out on a hunting trip this week.
Lawrence County Chief Deputy Brian Covington told FOX54 News on Saturday that it is believed Daniel Whitaker was climbing a tree toward a tree stand. Covington said the tree in question is "close to the edge of a cliff. The ladder side of the tree stand was on the same side of the tree as the cliff."
70-year-old Whitaker was reported missing by his wife around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday after failing to return home from his trip.
Sheriff's Office officials and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) Aviation Team assisted in the search for Whitaker. Officials found Whitaker's car at the Pine Torch Church in the Bankhead National Forest.
