HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Alabama A&M University's offer to purchase Birmingham-Southern College was not accepted, the university confirmed Thursday.
“With no deal in Birmingham, we will shift our resources to be invested on our main campus in Huntsville as we achieved record enrollment in the 2023-2024 academic year,” said Vice President of Government Affairs & External Relations, Shannon Reeves.
In early May, Alabama A&M University (AAMU) made a $52 million bid to purchase Birmingham Southern College. Alabama A&M also made a second offer to BSC, upping their bid to over $13 million more than their initial offer.
According to AAMU, their initial offer would have covered construction and maintenance upgrades needed to operate the full campus, while the second offer would have cleared all of BSC's outstanding debt.
