Alabama A&M University celebrates Homecoming with annual parade

It's Homecoming time on the hill, and Alabama A&M celebrates with annual parade!

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — It's Homecoming time on the hill, and that means many Alabama A&M University bulldogs from near and far have made their way to the Rocket City to celebrate! In addition, what what better way to kick things off right before the big game than a parade?

Judy Edmond said she attended Alabama A&M University from 1964 - 1968. "It's changed a whole lot since I was here," she said with a laugh. "When I came here, you couldn't wear shorts. I graduated, came back in 2002 to get my Masters, and I'm the class of 1968 and this is our 55th year."

Debra Fluellen agrees that this is where it all began! "This is where I learned my craft and this is where I got my foundation in terms of helping me to want to be an educator, to go out and help people the way that I was helped here."

Fluellen and her eight siblings all attended Alabama A&M also. "We lost our mother four years ago.  She was 94 years old  and  one of her goals was to make sure that we all  went to school, got a degree, and to made something of ourselves.  And so with all nine of us having attended, we made this, like our family reunion. and so, mom, this was one of her favorite things. she loved coming to Homecoming week," she continued.

Raven Binford explained that she loves participating in events like this because, "... I'm just a TT [auntie] to all the kids, so I love doing stuff like this. My nieces them out here performing. I used to do this when I was their age. So now I see them growing up and doing it. I'm like, okay, TT, gonna represent y'all. "

Alabama A&M English & Foreign Languages Chair and 2 time Alumna Dr. Charlotte Teague said all in all the spirit is just different this year. "I was so excited, I got up and came out this morning early. This is about students, it's about spirit, it's about alumni. I'm just proud of the shift that has happened with the spirit and with the parade," said Dr. Teague.
