Alabama Jubilee Hot Air Balloon Classic comes to the Tennessee Valley on May 29

More than 50 balloons will take to the skies during the event at Point Mallard Park.

DECATUR, Ala. — The Alabama Jubilee Hot Air Balloon Classic is coming to Decatur and Morgan County on May 29 and May 30.

More than 50 balloons will take to the skies during the event at Point Mallard Park. There will be live music, a balloon glow, antique cars and tractors, motorcycles, arts and crafts, fireworks and more.

The Memorial Day weekend tradition starts at 6:15 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, with a hare balloon race in which one balloon will fly off of the Jubilee field while others try to follow and see who gets closest to a target that will be set down by the hare balloon.

Activities on Saturday include an antique and classic car expo behind the Ice Complex from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the Decatur Art Guild arts and crafts show from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the pavilion. The Southland Flywheelers will be hosting an antique tractor show from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a tractor parade at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

An afternoon balloon flight is set for 5:15 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.

Sunday kicks off with the Lynn Layton Chevrolet Key Grab. Balloons will start flying into the Jubilee field at around 7 a.m.

The Decatur Art Guild will have its arts and crafts show from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and another flight is set to launch at around 6:30 p.m. 

Live music is set to play on both days starting at 7 p.m.

The event will finish out on Sunday with the Alabama Jubilee Fireworks Spectacular at 9:30 p.m.

Admission to the Jubilee is free and attendees are encouraged to wear masks and practice social distancing.

During the event, Point Mallard Park will be classified as a "No-Drone Zone" according to FAA regulations.
