Alabama NAACP reacts to President Biden's drop out decision

FOX54 spoke with Alabama NAACP leaders who say it's critical everyone still gets to the polls and vote this November.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — President Biden is out of the presidential race... It's the big topic over the more than past twenty-four hours. This historic decision Sunday comes a little more than a hundred days out from election day. FOX54 spoke with Alabama NAACP leaders who say it's critical everyone still gets to the polls and vote this November.

Alabama NAACP State President Benard Simelton said President Biden's withdrawal on Sunday from the race brings a different dynamic to those who believe in democracy, and ensuring that everyone uses their civic duty to vote is the NAACP's main focus.  "The NAACP is concentrating continuously on getting out the vote, to make sure that every person knows the issues that are at stake and that they get out to vote in November."

Alabama NAACP Youth and College President Eldric Coleman explained that this is a very historic time. "This has not happened during my lifetime." Shortly after Biden withdrew from the race, he endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the democratic presidential nominee.

Coleman continued that it's not only important for people to get out and vote, but it's also important to know each candidates policies. "Get out and question these candidates, understand their track record, understand everything about them, because in these times we have to understand what's going on." Coleman also leaves a word of advice, breaking it down to his generation like this, "...."do you care about if you get financial aid? Do you care about if you get Pell Grant? Do you care about if your family member if you know their their social security benefits, their SNAP benefits, their government assistance with housing? If you care about those things, if you care about your life and care about the people around you, you will go vote."
