HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — President Joseph R. Biden announced he is no longer seeking reelection via a statement posted on his campaign X account at 12:46 pm C. "It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President," he said in the post. "And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term."
In an ensuing tweet, 81-year-old Biden endorsed current Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democrat nominee in his place. "Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year, " he said.
Statement from Alabama Young Republicans:
Joe Biden has announced that he will not seek reelection in the 2024 presidential race.
Upon announcing his intention to drop out of the race, he announced on X his support for Vice President Kamala Harris to receive the Democrat nomination.
“I’m glad that the President seems to have finally come to his senses and has recognized that he is wholly unfit to serve another four years as commander and chief, but we must ask ourselves, if he is unable to be President in 5 months, how can he serve as President now? President Biden is clearly not fit to be President now or in the future and he should resign the Presidency immediately.
Over the last three and a half years, we’ve seen out of control inflation, wars in the middle east and eastern Europe, a deadly border crisis, and some of the worst division in America in many of our lifetimes.
As the Democrats decide who their nominee will be, the Young Republicans of Alabama will continue to fight for President Trump and work to ensure we send him back to the White House.
America’s enemies need to know that strong, competent leaders are in charge, and after the 2024 election, they will be”, said YRFA Chairman, Stephanie Petelos Nabavian and YRFA Vice Chairman Jared C. Downing.
Reaction from elected officials in Alabama, political and government personnel will be added here as they come in. This story will be updated.

"Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve - And never was! He only attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement. All those around him, including his Doctor and the Media, knew that he wasn’t capable of being President, and he wasn’t - And now, look what he’s done to our Country, with millions of people coming across our Border, totally unchecked and unvetted, many from prisons, mental institutions, and record numbers of terrorists. We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
