Alabama road conditions: Black ice risk continues

ALDOT says. there will be potential for invisible hazards. “Black ice” is so-called because it is difficult to see on pavement.

ALABAMA, USA — The Alabama Department of Transportation advises motorists of the threat of “black ice” on north Alabama roadways. Alabama road conditions will continue to change as water on the road refreezes as the temperature drops

Black ice is so-called because it is difficult to see on pavement.

ALDOT cautions motorists to expect icy patches on north Alabama roadways tonight and throughout the weekend.

Icy patches remain on many routes affected by this week’s winter storm, and melting snow and ice may run across road edges or travel lanes and refreeze on pavement that may otherwise appear clear.

Motorists who must travel are advised to drive at reduced speeds and with great caution.
