HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — After a year of being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Kay Ivey is giving senior centers in Alabama the green light to reopen.
Senior centers can begin offering indoor activities again starting Monday, April 19.
The Huntsville-Madison County Senior Center plans to open back up in early May. Until then, they will continue to hold outdoor activities.
Huntsville-Madison County Senior Center Marketing Director Cathie Mayne said, "We are having classes outside, and we also have lots of our groups that meet like our senior softball or the fishing folks, and we will have some things online."
Face masks and proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be required for indoor activities at the Huntsville-Madison County Senior Center.

Reopening senior centers will allow older individuals to participate once again in social, nutritional, educational, and recreational activities.
“Our senior citizens have looked forward to the time when we could regather at these nurturing senior centers and I am so glad the day has come when the centers can reopen for indoor programs,” said Department of Senior Services Commissioner Jean Brown.
The Department of Senior Services has issued guidelines for indoor activities in accordance with Governor Kay Ivey’s State Health Order of April 7, 2021. Click here to view these guidelines.
