Alabama Veterans Museum hosts Veterans Day Parade in Athens

There are more than 300,000 veterans living in Alabama.

ATHENS, Ala. — Ahead of Veterans Day, the Alabama Veterans Museum held a parade in Athens on Saturday, November 6 to honor the sacrifices made by veterans across the country.

Several hundred people gathered in Athens to enjoy the East Limestone County High School Band, an exotic car show and to catch a glimpse of some of the veterans currently living in Athens.

"We have to appreciate our Veterans," said community member April Moslen.  "We have a lot of friends, and relatives that supported our country, and we're here to support them as well."

Moslen's daughter was in the parade as one of the saxophone players in the East Limestone County High School band.

The crowd felt honored to show their support for the veterans living in their community.

"My dad is a Vietnam Veteran and he is a part of the burial detail here in Athens," said community member Tina Todd. "I just really thank everything that they have done for us, and are still doing for us. They just really mean a lot to me and they have a special place in my heart."

The kids in the crowd were excited to collect the candy being thrown out by the parade's participants.

"It's a lot of candy," 9-year-old Carter Davis said. "A lot of candy. Lot's of candy."
