HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Aladdin’s journey sweeps audiences into an exotic world of daring adventure, classic comedy and timeless romance. Adi Roy, who plays Aladdin in the North American Tour of the stage show said, "... Aladdin is a spunky young fella to say the least."
True to the Disney animated film, Roy said his character has a lot of problems in the play because he's poor and fighting for food. "He's basically surviving on nothing until he meets a genie, and he gets three wishes to make his whole dreams come true," said Roy.
Marcus M. Martin plays the Genie. Martin said his character is the life of the party. "He comes and kind of turns Aladdin's world upside down and teaches them a few things along the way," he explained. Martin also shared his thoughts on being a part of the Disney legacy. "It's a responsibility that I try to honor every night on stage," he said.
Senzel Ahmady plays Princess Jasmine and said one thing she is very excited about is being a part of a cast that is so diverse. "I think it's so important for people to see this show and see people of color telling this story because it's an important one," she stated. Ahmady said Princess Jasmine is the only female lead in the entire show, "and I think she's a great role model for younger girls and even for us now today."
Just in case you were wondering, Martin said this show is for everybody! "Bring the kids, bring the uncles, the artist, cousins, grandpa, grandma, everybody," he said.
