MONTGOMERY, Ala — The Alabama Department of Labor announced on December 23 a new phone appointment system replacing in-person assistance for unemployment compensation claimants who need help with their claims.
ALDOL said the new system will make its debut on January 4, 2021, and starting January 3, claimants will be able to call 1-800-361-4524 from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Sundays through Thursdays to schedule a call back for the next day.
There will be 600 callbacks scheduled per day, excluding holidays and weekends, according to ALDOL. Each claimant will only be allowed one appointment per day. The callbacks will be scheduled for a time between 8 a.m. through 5 p.m. on weekdays.
“This new callback system will allow us to serve more claimants per day than we’ve been able to previously,” said Alabama Department of Labor Secretary Fitzgerald Washington. “We’ve been working nonstop to improve our services to unemployed Alabamians and this system will hopefully accomplish that.”
With the implementation of the new phone system, ALDOL is discontinuing in-person appointments at the Crump Senior Center in Montgomery until further notice. due to health and safety concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
