LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. — Drivers who wish to share their thoughts on the best way to improve a busy Limestone County intersection have until Jan. 10 to make their voices heard.
The Alabama Department of Transportation is soliciting input on a project that will add traffic signals to U.S. 72 at the intersection with Cambridge Lane in Athens.
New turn lanes are also planned for that location.
ALDOT says the current configuration offers limited sight distance for drivers maneuvering in and out of the median crossover, creating safety concerns.
This isn't the first time ALDOT has sought feedback on that intersection.
Public involvement for the proposed project was sought in 2023. At that time, the project design included the installation of a reduced-conflict intersection.
After officials considered the public's input, changes were made to the project design. ALDOT now proposes to install a traffic signal at the intersection to address safety concerns.
