ALDOT to start safety modifications at US 72, Alabama 79 intersection

ALDOT awarded the $424,984 contract to Reed Contracting in October.

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. — The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will begin construction on intersection safety modifications at U.S. 72 and Alabama 79 west of Scottsboro in Jackson County on the week of November 30, weather permitting.

ALDOT said the intersection is to be converted into a restricted U-turn intersection. The intersection will restrict crossing and left-turn movements from the minor street.

Instead of crossing or turning left from Alabama 79, motorists will turn right onto U.S. 72 followed by a U-turn, according to ALDOT. The department said this will significantly reduce exposure to conflicts with other vehicles.

ALDO awarded the $424,984 contract to Reed Contracting in October.

Lane closures and speed limit reductions are to be expected in the area.
