HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — An Ohio-based furniture and appliance store will shut all 370 locations and cease operations.

American Freight has already begun the wind-down process, which will eventually close the doors on 10 Alabama stores, including one located on North Memorial Parkway in Huntsville.

The company said it had few options as it struggled with financial problems it blamed on “sustained inflation and macroeconomic challenges facing the large durable goods sector.” Franchise Group, which owns American Freight, filed this week for voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy in a Delaware court.

Going out of business sales began Tuesday.

Franchise Group also operates Buddy's Home Furnishings, the Vitamin Shoppe and Pet Supplies Plus. All of those brands will be kept open as Franchise Group restructures its operations.

A Buddy's Home Furnishings is located in the 2000 block of Jordan Lane in Huntsville. Vitamin Shoppe operates in the 6200 block of University Drive and there are multiple Pet Supplies Plus locations across the Tennessee Valley.
