HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Do you know about the Alabama Aerospace Summer Intern Program? It gives high school and college STEM students the chance to get experience in the state's growing aerospace industry.
According to Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth's office, the internship program is offered in conjunction with the Alabama Chapter of the Aerospace States Association, a group of elected officials, academics, and private sector entities from states with ties to the aviation and spaceflight industries.
The two-week internship program takes students to partner facilities, like Lockheed Martin Space and United Launch Alliance, and allows them to take tours and interact with engineers and business leaders about potential careers. Students can learn about various jobs, find out what courses they need to take, and learn what skills companies are looking for.
“For more than a half-century, Alabama has been a national leader in aerospace development and technology, and if we are going to maintain that role, we must develop a new generation of students with the qualifications to work within the industry,” Ainsworth said. “We are currently in a new golden age of aerospace exploration, and this internship opportunity will put students firmly on the path toward securing well-paying, long-lasting 21st Century jobs.”
This year’s program will be split into a virtual session, which takes place June 6 - 10, and in-person visits to participating aerospace companies during the week of June 13 - 17. Additional information and an online application form may be found here.
