Birmingham’s VA Medical Center releases a statement on social media about the lockdown at their facilities on Thursday.

They said, “The Birmingham Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Birmingham VA Clinic and the Huntsville VA Clinic will reopen for normal business hours Fri. Jan. 10. As a precautionary measure, those facilities were closed temporarily on Thurs. Jan. 9, due to an incident that happened offsite.”

“The safety of our Veteran patients, guests and staff is our number one priority,” said Stacy Vasquez, Birmingham VA Health Care System Director.  “The steps taken were to ensure we protect those in our care.”


PREVIOUS STORY: According to a Twitter post by the Birmingham VA, appointments have been canceled at the VA Medical Center and Birmingham VA Clinic until further notice.

According to workers at the facility, it is on lockdown. Birmingham Police could not comment on the reason for the lockdown and the hospital administrator was unavailable for comment.
