ARAB, Ala. — Get ready for a display of holiday magic! The City of Arab and Arab Parks and Recreation will kick off the holiday season the day after Thanksgiving with the return of Christmas in the Park, a festive celebration featuring more than two million lights and spectacular decorations.
Now in its 30th year, Christmas in the Park runs from Nov. 29 to Dec. 31, at Arab City Park. The event opens with a lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. on Nov. 29, followed by musical performances from the Arab High School Jazz Band, who will play a mix of favorite Christmas carols and medleys.
The park will be aglow each evening from dusk to 9:30 p.m., weather permitting, with visitors able to stroll through a winter wonderland filled with family photo opportunities. The event is free and open to the public.
In addition to the lights, Santa in the Village adds extra holiday cheer. The nearby Arab Historic Village will be transformed into Santa’s village, where visitors can interact with costumed characters, visit the Grinch, and meet Santa Claus himself.
Activities at the village include watching the blacksmith make reindeer shoes, feeding the reindeer at the gristmill, and exploring historic buildings adorned in festive decorations.
Santa in the Village will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. (weather permitting) on the weekends of Nov. 29-30, Dec. 6-7, Dec. 13-14, and Dec. 20-21. Admission to the village is $6 per person, with children under 2 admitted free.
