ATHENS, Ala. — Athens Activity Center Director Amy Golden said there are about thirty vendors in attendance at this event. "We bring all the seniors and Athens and Limestone County together to enjoy each other's company and provide them with opportunities to talk with people that provide resources for senior citizens like Medicare or maybe the Health Department or assisted living facilities."
RE/MAX Legacy is one vendor in attendance and Senior Real Estate Specialist Lottie Partridge says she is excited to hopefully provide some helpful resources. "Today I'm just trying to provide some resources to the seniors that might be useful today or maybe in the future or to someone they love and care about."
Hospice Nurse Tara Jacobs explained this day keeps the seniors from being isolated and home alone. "So we like taking care of them because they took care of us. It just helps us keep them know that we still love them after all they did for us."
Annelyse Dizon is a part of the Mayor's Youth Commission in attendance at Senior Fun Fest. Dizon stated that earlier this year they were given an opportunity to have Senior Buddies. "We write them letters. They write back to us and we give them like little gifts and things. Earlier in the year we came here and we just got to visit with them and have lunch with them, and then we were given this opportunity to come back today and just like be part of this and get food parcels with them and visit with some of them. It was sweet to see them again."
Lastly, Golden shares a proven fact. "It's a proven fact that when seniors are active and they socialize, they live longer, healthier lives."
