Athens Shred Day: Free document shredding, drug take-back, and more at Athens State University

Athens Shred Day will offer document shredding, drug take-back, electronic recycling, and a food drive at Athens State University.

ATHENS, Ala. — Athens State University is hosting shred day this Saturday! The Better Business Bureau of North Alabama, in partnership with AARP Alabama, will hold Athens Shred Day on September 21, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The public can take advantage of several services during the event:

  • Document Shredding: Shred up to 3 kitchen-sized bags or 3 file storage boxes per vehicle. Please remove plastic, metal, and binders. Shredding will continue until trucks reach capacity.
  • Drug Take-Back: Bring prescription, veterinary, and over-the-counter medications. Needles and liquids will not be accepted.
  • Electronic Recycling: Items must weigh less than 40 pounds. There is a $10 fee for each plasma or flat-screen TV. Large-back TVs, CRT monitors, and appliances are not accepted.
  • Food Drive: Donate non-perishable food items to benefit LCCI, Inc. (Limestone County Churches Involved, Inc.).

The event will take place on the Athens State University campus. The event is free and open to the public.
