MADISON, Ala. — North Alabama's newest Kroger store is due to open this week. The company has announced a basketful of specials for its grand opening ceremony coming up on Wednesday, September 13 - including one that may help the pain at the pump.
The brand new Kroger at 8855 Hwy. 72 (at the County Line Rd. intersection) will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Wednesday. The Bob Jones High School Band has been asked to perform, and store officials say there will be chances for customers to win prizes including a free Boost membership (the store's paid perks program offering discounted delivery and pickup rates and other money-saving offers throughout the year) and a year's worth of free groceries, valued at up to $3,000.
In addition, all shoppers who use their Kroger Plus card at the store's adjacent fuel center (which opened earlier this year) will get an instant 20-cent discount on their fuel purchase, when made between Wednesday, Sept. 13 and Sunday, Sept. 17.
“We are so excited to share this new store... with the Madison community during our Grand Opening celebration this August,” said Calley White, Madison Kroger store leader.
The Kroger Company's $27-million investment in the new supermarket location will include the installation of a mural created by Madison native Ann Moeller Steverson. The 24-foot-wide by 8-foot tall mural "resembles the most joyous and most beautiful aspects of the Madison community," the company said in a release, "Madison’s iconic downtown clock and the variety of butterflies that fly through the city and state."
White described the mural as "dedicated to finding joy in our city."
The 58,000 square-foot facility includes an in-store Starbucks Coffee shop, drive-thru pharmacy, sushi bar, Murray's Cheese Shop, and a "Kitchen Place" Food Hall.
More than 160 jobs will be created by the opening of the store. Operating hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, with pharmacy hours 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., weekdays; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sundays.
