With so many businesses forced to close right now, you may wonder what qualifies a business to be essential and stay open, like bike repair shops.
For many people in Huntsville, biking is their only mode of transportation.
Blevins Bicycle Company Owner, Matthew Blevins said, "I think it's really important. I think if you ask any of our customers they would most definitely say we're essential to them."
Blevins says he has actually seen a boom in business since the quarantine.
"In the last 4 business days, we've had close to 90 service bikes come in, so there's obviously a huge demand for it," said Blevins. "Right now, we're seeing more of an influx of services than we ever have this time of year, and our mechanics are just working full time to try to keep everybody up and going, especially the folks that use bicycles as their main form of transportation."
Blevins says their mechanics are taking precautions and have changed the way they normally do things. Right now, they're just doing service and only allowing people to drop their bikes off outside.
Blevins said, "We're cleaning every bike that's coming in, and then once it's there at the work stand, it's cleaned again, and then when the customer comes to pick it up we actually clean it a third time."
They say cycling is a good way to relieve stress, especially now during the coronavirus pandemic.
"Cycling is obviously a really good form of exercise and staying healthy, but I think more for cyclists the big thing is getting out and kind of clearing your mind and kind of forget about all the craziness that's going on right now," said Blevins.
Blevins says he's thankful for the support from the community and say they will do all they can to continue to serve people in Huntsville.
