BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin was released from a hospital on January 6 after receiving treatment for COVID-19 related pneumonia, according to the Associated Press
The Associated Press is reporting that Woodfin received convalescent plasma therapy and Remdesivir during his stay at Princeton Baptist Medical Center.
Mayor Woodfin is encouraging people to follow the recommendations of health professionals for COVID-19. He said in a pair of tweets via the City of Birmingham: "We have often heard how important it is to follow the recommendations of health professionals as those recommendations relate to COVID-19. I am doing that. I want to encourage people to continue to listen to and to follow the advice of medical experts about this virus.’’

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin has been hospitalized due to COVID-related pneumonia, according to his doctor and city officials. In a tweet from the city of Birmingham, Woodfin’s doctor said he was admitted to the hospital Monday night “to address symptoms connected to COVID pneumonia.”
The tweet said the mayor is “receiving excellent care and is resting comfortably” and “remains in good spirits and thanks everyone for the well wishes.”
Woodfin said a week ago that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and was experiencing only mild symptoms.
“Remember, everyone – COVID is real,” Woodfin said in his Dec. 30 tweet.
Mayors for Decatur, Auburn and Florence have all announced this week that they’ve contracted COVID-19. Alabama reached a new record for COVID-19 hospitalizations on Monday, with more than 3,000 new patients in hospitals across the state, an increase of 50 percent.
The city of Florence announced Monday that Mayor Andy Betterton has tested positive for COVID-19.
The city said Mayor Betterton is receiving care from his primary health care provider and is only experiencing mild symptoms as of January 4.
Additionally, the city said that Betterton followed all Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Alabama Department of Public Health guidelines since being notified of the test result. Betterton has informed anyone who was in close contact of him of the positive test result.
Decatur mayor Tab Bowling has been diagnosed with COVID-19.
According to a statement from the city, after experiencing mild symptoms, Bowling tested positive for COVID-19.
“I am receiving excellent care and feeling somewhat better,” said Mayor Bowling Friday afternoon after the diagnosis. “My primary physician has scheduled for me to receive the monoclonal infusion on Monday morning. Please know that COVID-19 is very real. I pray that you stay well and safe.”
The city says Mayor Bowling is currently receiving treatment at his residence, where he will continue to work and focus on making a full recovery.
