LifeSouth Community Blood Centers in desperate need for blood donations after Hurricane Zeta

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is in desperate need of blood donations following Hurricane Zeta.

The organization said its blood supplies remain dangerously low due to the impact of COVID-19 and previous storms. LifeSouth is urging people to donate as soon as possible.

According to LifeSouth, all blood types are currently needed, especially type O.

All donors will receive a wellness screen prior to donation and each donation will be tested for COVID-19 antibodies. Click here to find a blood drive near you and to make an appointment.

Additionally, severe weather from Hurricane Zeta caused the American Red Cross to cancel some of its blood drives, but the organization is encouraging people to schedule appointments in unaffected areas if possible.

“The need for blood does not stop because of severe weather,” said Ronnika A. McFall, American Red Cross spokesperson. “It is the blood products already on the shelves that help save lives when severe weather hits and now we are calling on our amazing volunteer donors to help replenish and maintain the blood supply.”
