Body found at Wheeler Wildlife Refuge identified

A cyclist called 911 this morning to report a car floating in the Tennessee River at Wheeler Wildlife Refuge.

DECATUR, Ala. — A cyclist called 911 this morning saying a car was floating in the Tennessee River at Wheeler Wildlife Refuge. 

Authorities say they then saw a body floating near the car while investigating the scene. 

The body floating has been identified as 39-year-old Anthony Williams.

According to ALEA the crash happened approximately around 1 A.M. this morning. Williams car left the road and hit a rock embarkment on Rockhouse Road near Refuge Road then entered the Tennessee River. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

This incident remains under investigation and we will update you with details as they come in.
