Morgan County deputies now have an easier way to check inmates for weapons or drugs.
The jail recently got a new body scanner which can be used for each inmate, even those with pacemakers.
Now, instead of strip-searching, workers can analyze a body scan to check for any items being hidden on inmates. They say they've already found one pocket knife in a person's clothing using the body scanner.
Lt. Richard Moats at the Morgan County Sheriff's Office said, "The machine looks for geometric shapes in the body, because the body is not comprised of geometric shapes, so if it sees something and it looks a little bit odd, it'll flag it and kind of point it out to us and we go from there to investigate it."
They say the scanner is less invasive and makes booking inmates a lot faster.
