Juvenile arrested for pair of Jackson County school vandalism cases

Investigators believe the same juvenile is responsible for break-ins at Bryant Elementary and the North Sand Mountain School.

JACKSON COUNTY, Ala. — Investigators in Jackson County say they have stopped a "reign of terror" by a young vandal who is responsible for a series of break-ins and vandalism at two area schools. The damage as a result of the weekend incidents is estimated at more than $25,000.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says the incidents began Thursday at Bryant Elementary. Officials there discovered graffiti sprayed over walls, windows, and the school marquee. Several windows had also been broken.

On Friday, a suspect was seen on surveillance footage at North Sand Mountain School breaking into the facility and breaking computers and electronic equipment, trophies, and other property. Between Friday night and early Saturday morning, Bryant Elementary was again vandalized with graffiti.

Photos provided to FOX54 by the sheriff's office from Bryant Elementary show various images and phrases spray-painted on the facility, including the letters L and F, "Flat Rock is better" and "Cops Can't Get Me."

Investigators reportedly connected the suspect to the earlier vandalism report via the suspect's clothes, camouflage bag, and baseball bat seen at both schools.

The sheriff's office says the arrest was made by deputies on Saturday, when the same suspect again attempted to cause damage at North Sand Mountain School.

The exact age of the suspect was not revealed, but officials said they will be processed through the county's juvenile justice system.
