HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — There's a shortage in Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) and Huntsville Hospital and Calhoun Community college want to help.
Calhoun Community College has partnered with Huntsville Hospital to offer a CNA training program.
The five week program starts on July 12 and runs through August 20. It takes place Mondays through Fridays from 5:30-9:30.
All students must complete an interview with Huntsville Hospital to secure their spot in the program and once they pass the class they'll be given a guaranteed position.
The program is advertised as free, but participants will pay a portion of the upfront cost, and Huntsville Hospital will reimburse the rest of the fee after participants have been on the job for six months.
A business developer for Calhoun Community College says, "Huntsville Hospital pays $500 of their $790 tuition, and after 90 days --once they complete the program-- and have been working for Huntsville Hospital for 90 days, they give them another $500."
After six months, graduated students will receive another $250 from Huntsville Hospital. CNA's will start off making $12 to $13 an hour.
