HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Calhoun Community College is excited to announce its newest opportunity for the community, which is a free Class B CDL training program in partnership with Skills for Success.
Doug Brazier, Director of Calhoun Workforce Solutions, shared that this initiative is fully funded by Skills for Success, a rapidly growing training program developed by the Alabama Community College System. This program was designed to equip residents with the essential credentials needed for employment in high-demand fields across the state, including manufacturing, culinary arts, IT, healthcare, and more.
"A Class B CDL can be a game-changer for individuals seeking well-paying jobs without the need for a college degree," Brazier explained. "With this license, you can explore roles as a dump truck driver, handle deliveries for merchandising companies, or work on construction sites. Employers consistently reach out to Calhoun in search of students with a Class B CDL, making job placement nearly a certainty," he added.
The training program will take place in Huntsville and Decatur, running from Monday, October 16 through Friday, October 20, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet the following criteria by the first day of class:
- Be at least 18 years of age*.
- Have a good driving record.
- Successfully pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination.
- Successfully pass a DOT controlled substance test (chain of custody drug screen).
- Obtain a Class B Learner’s Permit.
