MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. — Big changes are on the way for the Marshall County School System.
Superintendent Dr. Cindy Wigley announced on Thursday that the school board has approved a capital improvement plan, funded in part by a one-cent shared sales tax that enabled the sale of $85 million in school tax warrants.
"It has taken a lot of time but we have done our homework, completing a comprehensive pre construction plan in order to provide the safest learning environment possible and at the same time, safeguarding our budget," Dr. Wigley said.
The plan includes upgrades and new classrooms at schools throughout the Marshall County School System, which serves over 6,000 students. These students are divided into four groups, each connected to one of the following high schools: DAR, Brindlee Mountain, Asbury, and Douglas. Additionally, the system’s Technical School, which serves more than 500 students each day, will also be improved.
Many of the construction projects are already underway, and Dr. Wigley noted that community meetings for each area will be announced soon to keep residents informed.
