HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Do you help to care for a family member or friend who is frail or disabled? Well, the Caregiver College program may just be for you.
The 7th annual caregiver college is a free and public daylong event that celebrates caregivers.
The purpose of the event is to celebrate, educate and provide a break to family caregivers in our region.
Alabama Cares Program Coordinator, Lydia Weeks said there are more than about 1.3 million family caregivers, and they're excited to celebrate those individuals.
"Everyone is invited, especially those family caregivers. We also have professionals that will be in attendance. Those professionals are our arms into the community. So, we're excited to have everyone involved."
Madison County caregiver, Donna Gullatte said caregiving is hard, but it's also rewarding.
"I gain experience every day because it's something different every day. Just as other caregivers in Madison County and throughout the world, I'm sure caregiver has a lot of the same things that you do daily, but the dynamics for each person is different."
Gullatte said anyone who attends this free event will be in for a wealth of information.
"You'll hear different agencies that deal with caregivers, they deal with the elderly, deal with dementia, dealt with other problems that as we age that you'll find out. You'll find out about that you'll hear inspirational speakers."
The 2022 Caregiver College will be held at Willowbrook Madison on November 10th from 7:30am to 3:30pm
Tuesday, November 8 is the deadline to register for this free event and all caregivers are encouraged to attend.
