HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Students and staff at Chaffee Elementary School spent their Friday celebrating Black History Month. The school filled the cafeteria for a fun-filled program, educating them on the past, present, and future.
Lee High School's choir sang a few renditions and performed with a song and dance before students and teachers. Superintendent Dr. Clarence Sutton made a stop at the school to join in on the fun.
He's the first Black male superintendent of Huntsville City Schools. He shared with FOX54 his thoughts on integration in the past, to what we see now in the present.
"The progress we made from the Sonnie Hereford case to now is tremendous. We see students all across our district celebrating each other, learning from STEM to what we saw at the theater program today. That's progress," said Sutton.
The program also included students presenting some Black History Month facts.
