FLORENCE, Ala. — The City of Florence has a new police chief! Longtime Chief Ron Tyler announced his retirement in April after serving for nearly 30 years, and the new leader is no stranger to the community.
According to the city, newly appointed Chief Mike Holt has been with the department for 28 years as well as teaching at Northwest Shoals Community College and UNA. He's received numerous awards and honors during his time with the force.
Mayor Andy Betterton released a statement saying, "We are happy to have an individual with Chief Holt’s experience and expertise, and we look forward to working with him as head of the Police Department."
And a message from the new Chief went our to the community: "I am grateful and honored for the opportunity to lead the men and women of the Florence Police Department into our next chapter."
