HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Communities across the Tennessee Valley are pouring out support for one Grissom High School freshman.
Chandler Drouin was seriously injured when he was struck by a car during cross-country practice on Wednesday. He sustained multiple broken bones from that accident including a broken tibia, fibula, ribs, clavicle, and orbital.
It will be a long road to recovery for Chandler, but one that his community has committed to help him finish.
"...Chandler's Cross Country Team, JROTC, and Boy Scout Troop 343 have stepped up and supported their comrade when things got tough." Chandler's mom, Nicole Drouin, told FOX54 News.
"While it was a tragedy what happened, the outpouring of love and support has been incredible!" Nicole Drouin shared.
Saturday morning that support was shown at the Dew It On The Trails Meet in Decatur; Cross-country runners from Grissom High School and Decatur High School came together to cheer Chandler on with a special video.
"...We wish you {Chandler} were out here with us, uh but we're thankful that you're going through the recovery process now and that hopefully we'll see you back out here soon." shared the Decatur High School Cross-Country Coach in the video, "...We're wishing you the best and you're in our thoughts and prayers and if there's anything we can do for you, you've got a community right behind you."
The driver involved in the hit-and-run that injured Drouin remains in the Madison County Jail. He has been identified as Jarod Severance. Severance is charge with leaving the scene of an accident and 2nd degree assault. He is currently being held on a $60,000 dollar bond.
