HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Damon Blinks, the man Huntsville officials say shot a man to death and stole his car back in 2023, has been brought back to Madison County after more than a year in custody in Indiana.

Blinks is charged with capital murder in the death of 23-year-old Devin Tyler McDonald. Huntsville Police's Major Crimes Unit says investigators found McDonald's body around 7 a.m. the morning of Aug. 29, 2023, in the 300 block of Quality Circle.

Investigators believe McDonald was shot during a robbery attempt reported around 10:30 p.m. the previous night. McDonald's vehicle was believed to have been taken by Blinks after the shooting.

Officials in Carmel, Indiana found Blinks, a native of that state, in their jurisdiction two days later, driving what was determined to be McDonald's vehicle. Officers attempted to make a traffic stop, but Blinks reportedly led officials on a chase before trying to run away on foot, only to be captured a short time later.

Indiana officials charged Blinks with theft and possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, and unlawfully carrying a handgun.

Blinks was booked into the Madison County Jail on Friday, where he is being held without bond.
