DECATUR, Ala. — A Decatur man is being accused of animal abuse on social media.
Residents on Sandlin Road in Decatur claim they witnessed their neighbor repeatedly abuse a puppy, ultimately resulting in its death.
They say both the Decatur Police Department and Decatur Animal Services were contacted and witnessed the abuse but failed to take action.
There is an image circulating Facebook showing the dog hanging out of a trash can.
Councilman Hunter Pepper made a post of his own, saying he has contacted Decatur police, and they are investigating the matter.
In an update to his original post, Pepper says no evidence of abuse has been found.
A Decatur Police spokesperson says they are investigating the matter, but no criminal charges have been made at this time.
Decatur Animal Services has not yet responded to our inquiry.
