DECATUR, Alabama — Protesters in Decatur want answers from Decatur police in the deadly officer involved shooting of Stephen Perkins. Community members gathered at Rhodes Ferry Park in Decatur and walked from Rhodes Ferry to the Doubletree Hotel upon Governor Kay Ivey's legislative update. A group gathered for a march ahead of Governor Kay Ivey's appearance in Decatur on Tuesday.
Decatur NAACP President Rodney Gordon shares is concerns. "First of all, we are here for justice for Steve, for the Perkins family. There was an injustice done. An ambush right here in our city, and it is unacceptable. And we are here today to express and put a physical presence on justice. All right, we have a visitor coming to the city today. The Governor, and we want to make the Governor aware of what's happening in Decatur, Alabama.
Governor Ivey shared with FOX54, "That case is being investigated by ALEA, and until they finish their investigation, there's not a whole lot and say. I trust ALEA, and our job is to protect law enforcement officers as well as the public safety, and we will stay true to that mission," she explained.
As protestors chanted, "We want justice , we want justice, justice for Steve Perkins, justice for Steve Perkins!," Gordon continued, "The motto motto of the police is that they go home. They want to go home after the shift. That night, everybody went home except the man that was at home."
