Man killed in industrial incident at Decatur GE Appliances Plant

Decatur Fire and Rescue EMS confirmed that crews were dispatched at 9:22 a.m. Wednesday for an incident involving an entrapment with machinery.

DECATUR, Ala. — Morgan County authorities responded to a call regarding an entrapment with machinery at the GE Appliances plant in Decatur on Wednesday morning. According to the Morgan County coroner, Rodney Terry, 58, of Town Creek, AL, has passed away due to this incident.

GE Appliances issued a statement in response to the incident:

"The GE Appliances team is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one of our employees, Rodney Terry, yesterday morning at our Decatur refrigeration plant. He will be remembered as a gentle, kind man who cared about those around him. He quickly rose through the plant as an area leader, and we are grateful for the compassion he showed in this role and the positive impact he had on all his coworkers during his time at the plant.

We are working to understand what happened, bringing in resources to help us review the operations and equipment and continuing to cooperate with OSHA. During this time, we felt it is in the best interest of our team to cancel production for the rest of the week. Employees will be paid for this time off.

We also have counseling resources available for our employees who need support."
