Decatur-Morgan Hospital is seeing a negative impact for it's workers due to COVID-19. Around 100 staff members have been furloughed.
According to Decatur-Morgan Hospital Chief of Nurses Anita Walden, the hospital continues to see low patient volumes. The emergency department as well as the inpatient and outpatient departments have all seen a drastic decrease in their numbers.
"These weeks have been very tough on our whole team. We don't like to furlough people however it's become necessary. We've reassigned as much as we possibly could. We have people taking temperatures, cleaning departments, we have people who have moved from one department to another that's a little bit busier."
Some employees were reassigned to other areas in need of help, and some are temporarily furloughed. The hospital said these employees keep their benefits and can file for unemployment benefits.
Walden said they plan to bring them back to full-time employment in the future.
