DECATUR, Ala. — The Decatur Police Department wants to break language barriers within the Latin-X community. The department launched a new Facebook page en Español.
It will feature information in the Spanish language about upcoming events, safety alerts, community resources, and crime prevention tips.
According to the U.S. Census the Latinx community increased by 35 percent between 2010 and 2020 in Morgan County.
They also hope the page “will serve as a tool to effectively distribute important information, to connect with more of our neighbors and to answer any questions our Hispanic community may have.”
'"Our Hispanic community is fast-growing and we just want to meet their needs and help them as much as we can. We really just wanted to form another line of communication between us and the Spanish-speaking community. They may not know information that most people do know just because there's a language barrier and we just really want to bridge that gap, said Public Informations Liasion, Irene Cardenas-Martinez.
Cardenas-Martinez said this is good for both English and Spanish speakers. If you know someone who could benefit from the page, share it!
