Residents urged to secure homes as Decatur burglaries and assaults continue

DPD is looking for information on a series of reported burglaries that occurred where the suspect has sexually assaulted the victims.

DECATUR, Ala. — The Decatur Police Department is notifying the community and asking for information on a series of burglaries where the suspect has sexually assaulted the victims.

According to the announcement from Decatur Police posted on their Facebook page, the incidents go back to April.

  • On the evening of April 27, 2024, a burglary occurred on Ferry St. NE where the offender entered the dwelling through an unlocked window and sexually assaulted the victim.
  • On December 7, 2024, a burglary occurred on Hay Dr. SW where the offender entered the dwelling through an unlocked window and sexually assaulted the victim.
  • During the early morning of December 14, 2024, a burglary occurred on 2nd Ave. SW where the offender entered the dwelling through an unlocked window and sexually assaulted the victim.

Investigators say the suspect was reported as a Black male, approximately 5’6” to 5’9” in height, aged between 20 – 45 years old, with a slender to medium build. The suspect covered his face during the burglaries and assaults.

Decatur police advises residents to make sure the doors and windows to their homes are secure and locked, especially during the night.
