75 loans. 69 customers' names. All obtained illegally, Decatur police say

Decatur police say there were as many as 69 names used to obtain 75 loans without the customers' consent.

DECATUR, Ala. — A former employee of a Decatur loan business is accused of taking out loans in the names of dozens of customers. The woman now faces charges included theft of property, identity theft, and forgery.

According to Decatur Police, the business reported the woman had obtained 75 loans using the names of as many as 69 customers' names without their knowledge or consent.

Detectives were able to contact 37 of the customers on the list provided by the business. Those customers confirmed they had not obtained the loans on their own accord.

The former employee was arrested on Friday, police said. She was booked in the Morgan County Jail with bond set at a total of $297,000. She remains in jail as of Saturday.
