DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. — The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office announced the death of one of its deputies from COVID-19 complications.
The sheriff's office released the following statement regarding Deputy Mickey Bowen's death:
It's with a heavy heart that the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office announces the passing of one of our own.
Deputy Mickey Bowen had served 21 years with the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, working both in the Detention Center and most recently as a transport deputy. Recently, Mickey was enjoying his promotion to Chief Executive Assistant in the Detention Center.
On Tuesday, Mickey passed away in UAB Hospital in Birmingham due to complications that arose from COVID-19.
Mickey was 49 years old and survived by his wife and two daughters. The Bowen's lived in the Crossville community.
Visitation will be tomorrow (Friday, October 30, 2020) at the Crossville Memorial Chapel from 1 pm to 3 pm. The funeral will follow immediately after. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Church following the funeral.
We ask for your prayers for Mickey's family and his DCSO family. Deputy Bowen was very much loved by all of us, and not only at work, but in the DeKalb County community as a whole.
DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden offered kind words regarding Bowen's life.
"Mickey always had a way of making us laugh and brightening our day. He was always there for his co-workers, and was just a great human being to be around. To us, it's like losing a close family member," said Welden. "We'd like to ask the public to keep us and Mickey's family in their prayers."
