MONTGOMERY, Ala — The Alabama Secretary of State's Office is warning voters to be aware of false or inaccurate information that was sent out by Election Mail Service.
Election Mail Service, based in Austin, Texas, is sending out letters with false information regarding the General Election, the Secretary of State's Office said.
The Secretary of State said the letter claims the person is not registered to vote and includes an unofficial voter registration application.
“After being notified by numerous voters who have received information in the mail addressed to people who have passed away or no longer reside in our state, our office immediately contacted the Election Mail Service to stop spreading the false information, which has in turn only confused and misled voters,” Secretary of State John H. Merrill said.
Merrill said voters should contact either the Secretary of State's Office or their local county Board of Registrars if they wish to check their voter registration status.
For the most up to date election information, Merrill said voters should visit AlabamaVotes.gov.
