Fire burns through Huntsville apartment complex

Firefighters responded to the 4100 block of Memorial Pkwy. SW about 7:30 a.m. Monday

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Fire rescue crews were called to an apartment complex in the 4100 block of Memorial Parkway SW Monday as a fire raged in one of the buildings.

The fire happened about 7:30 a.m. at the Fern Parc Apartment Homes.

The complex is located on the west side of Memorial, north of Martin Road.

Video shot by FOX54 showed flames shooting from the roof of the 2-story structure. Asst. Fire Marshal Jerry Tanner-Call said one person was taken to the hospital.

Marshal said he could hear the alarm system when he arrived at the scene.

Eight fire trucks responded to the call, and an estimated 16 to 20 units were affected, leading to the collapse of the building's roof. The American Red Cross is assisting those who have been displaced.

In response to the fire, Alabama law firm Sarah Taggart, P.C. is accepting donations at Fern Parc Apartments, located at 4100 Memorial Parkway SW.

Donations can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Items they are asking people to consider donating include diapers, shoes, wipes, toiletries, baby formula, pet food, cat litter, towels, and phone chargers.
