HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — While Independence Day brings joy and celebration for many, the booms and pops in the sky and on the ground often stress pets.

"Fireworks can cause significant anxiety for animals,” said Virgie Graham, Interim Director of Huntsville Animal Services. “The loud noises and unexpected flashes of light can disrupt their sense of safety and security.”

Graham offers the following tips to help pet owners keep their furry friends calm during fireworks:

  • Create a safe space
  • Use white noise
  • Comfort your pet
  • Provide distractions
  • Consult your veterinarian for additional tips

If you anticipate having a quiet home during the July Fourth holiday, Huntsville Animal Services suggests considering adopting or fostering a shelter pet.
